QUINCY, ILL. -- Despite the rumors, the South Side Boat Club in Quincy is staying open ... for now.

About 80 members of the club met Friday night for what's been described as a "very heated" discussion about the future of the club.

Recently it was announced that financial troubles and dwindling membership would force the club to close its doors soon.

A statement earlier this month from Boat club President Paulette Cleary stated that the club had seen a steady decline in business.

In fact, regular business hours officially ended just hours before the Friday night meeting. And it was at that meeting that the members decided not to move forward with closing the club or putting up the building for sale.

Instead the membership will investigate other options in an attempt to keep the doors of the popular recreation spot open.
