State Sen. John Sullivan, D-Rushville is recovering after a surgery to remove a recent recurrence of liposarcoma.

Doctors were able to completely remove the cancer in a successful surgery. No further treatment, such as radiation or chemotherapy, were recommended.

With excellent post-surgery reports, Sullivan will soon be moved out of the Intensive Care Unit at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. to complete his recovery.

Sullivan’s wife, Joan, reports that John is doing very well and already eager to get back on his feet.

The senator announced Sunday that he would take a leave of absence for treatment.
