JACKSONVILLE, ILL. -- The Jacksonville City Council is moving forward with plans to build a new water treatment plant.

This according to the Jacksonville Journal Courier.

Monday council members approved the $30 million project.

Last year the plant took on damages after a massive flash flood on a small creek and lake.

The cost of the project will be passed on to customers through higher rates.

Depending on a water customer's usage, the hike in a monthly water bill could rise anywhere from $4 to $14, with residential customers on the lower end. Those numbers could change depending on how the city finances the project.
