QUINCY, ILL. -- A local train club wants to share its love of trains to the public this weekend.

Saturday, the Quincy Society of Model Engineers opened its railways at the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy for its annual open house.

Visitors walked through three different layouts, including a permanent layout in the main club room. In the activity room, children immediately went to a train they could operate themselves. A portable HO layout took shape right next door, all with many fine details and animation.

Hank Murray says this train club club exists simply because its members love trains. He hopes the club of 30 will grow each year the open house comes to town.

"There are so many aspects to this hobby. Some people like operations. Some people like scenery. Some people like detailing. Some people are now experts at the electronics that are involved in them. We meet to enjoy each other's company, but also to help each other grow in this hobby and learn," Murray said.

The public's invited to attend the open house Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Just follow the signs to the lower level of the Good Samaritan Home, at 2130 Harrison St. in Quincy.
