MISSOURI (AP) -- Missouri drivers will see a change in their licenses starting in 2013.

According to the Department of Revenue the new licenses will have new security features.

The new features are being implemented according the state, as a way to protect identities and to fight fraud.

Some of the new features include bar codes, special printing and laser perforations.

Temporary licenses will be issued at license offices around the state.

The permanent license will be mailed to drivers seven to 10 days later.

The revenue department says that the new licenses will be completely phased in my April at no additional cost to the owner.

Another change is that anyone under 21-years-old will get a vertical license instead of the traditional horizontal one.

According the the Missouri Department of Revenue website, this change has nothing to do with the federal REAL ID Act.
