ST. LOUIS, MO. -- UPDATED: November 1 at 3:36 p.m.

William Hudnall, the former Police Chief for the City of Canton, Mo., was sentenced to three years probation, five months of home confinement and 40 hours of community service involving the purchase of a .45 caliber firearm at a Canton gun shop.

That announcement was made Tuesday by the United States Attorney’s Office.

Hudnall admitted with his plea in August that he had made a false statement on the Firearms Transaction Record form in order to obtain the firearm for an individual that he knew to be a convicted felon. Convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms.

Hudnall, 48, of Canton, previously pleaded guilty to one felony count of making a false statement to a federal firearms dealer. He appeared Tuesday for sentencing before United States District Judge Audrey G. Fleissig.
