This stems from an inquiry on July 20 which led to an arrest warrant issued.

In a document released by the McDonough County Circuit Clerk to KHQA's Brooke Hasch, it is stated, " ... Daniel L. Watson on or about the 1st day of November, 2010 through the 28th day of February, 2011, at and within the said County of McDonough in the State of Illinois, aforesaid, who was 17 years of age or over, and who as a high school teacher of [the student], held a position of authority in relation to [the student], committed an act of sexual conduct with [the student], who was at least 13 years of age but under 18 years of age when the act was committed, in that the defendant touched ... [the student], and did then and there, thereby, commit the offense of AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE in violation of Chapter 720, Act 5, Section 12-16 (f) of the Illinois Compiled Statutes contrary to the form of the Statute in such case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the same People of the State of Illinois."

We spoke to the district's Superintendent Alene Reuschel about the circumstances surrounding Watson's case. She gave this statement:

"The district is aware of the events regarding Mr. Watson. The district has and will continue to cooperate with authorities. The district continues to take all necessary steps to make sure students are safe and feel safe," said Dr. Reuschel.

Watson posted his $100,000 bond and was released with a pending court date.
