A Cass County man charged in the death of a 19-year-old woman will spend five years in jail, his defense attorney said.

Jacob Hendricks, 19, was charged in the January, 22 death of Brianna Baker.

Baker died in a crash that ended a high-speed chase that began in Versailles, Ill. and ended in Beardstown, Ill.

Hendricks' attorney John B. Leonard confirmed that his client received the sentence and will not serve any probation.  He faced up to 12 years in prison on charges of reckless homicide, aggravated reckless driving and other misdemeanors.

Hendricks’ entered a plea agreement to the charges.

The chase began with reports of a dark colored Chevy pickup going through yards and vandalizing private and public property in Versailles, Illinois.

Investigators said Hendricks sped away from authorities and drove through four counties. At times he reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, investigators said. The chase went through Brown, Pike and Morgan counties before Hendricks crashed his pickup into a utility pole.

Baker was a student at the University of Missouri.

Passenger Brooke Vonholt, 18, was also hospitalized in the crash.

A lawsuit was filed by the family of one of the passengers against the Brown County Sheriff’s Office in the wake of the chase complaining that the chase was unnecessary.
