QUINCY, ILL. -- A chain of motorcycles took to the streets Saturday, bearing gifts for the needy.

Tri-State motorcyclists gathered at TNT Action Sports to kick off their annual Toy Run for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program.

"What we do is come in and get an angel tag with the approximate age and gender of a child on it, go out and buy the gift that is on there. Come back, put the tag on it, then the Salvation Army distributes it to children around the community who are in need," TNT Action Sports Sales Manager Andrew Smith said.

This is a program that has been going on for more than a decade.

Salvation Army Major Dan Jennings rode along with the brigade. He said this is a good way to start off the holiday season for the Salvation Army.

"Motorcycles are a cross section across our whole society. A lot of different types of people, a lot of different ages ride. and shoot, even an old guy like me rides a motorcycle. So it's a really fun thing to do and for a good cause. it is for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program," Jennings said.

Andrew Smith thinks this ride shows a different side to motorcycle riders that the community does not see.

"The motorcycle community really takes to this because there isn't always positive things in the media about the motorcycle community. This is something that really shows the motorcycle community gives back to every body around Quincy and Hannibal, Missouri. There's people out there who really do care about the kids in this community," Smith said.

This year, the group delivered around fifty presents to both Hannibal and Quincy.

The Harley owners group also holds a disbursement fund night around the holidays, where it donates money raised throughout the year to different charities around the community.
