NOVELTY, MO. -- A Novelty, Mo. man is being held in the Adair County Jail, accused of shooting a neighbor to death in an ongoing dispute.

Glenn Head, 58, 190 Rural Route 1 is being held without bond in Tuesday's shooting death of 67-year-old William “Bill” Bacon, the Edina Sentinal is reporting.

Bacon died in the Northeast Regional Medical Center emergency room. The shooting occurred about 3:30 p.m. near County Road 312.

Knox County Coroner Jeffrey Doss is taking Bacon's body to Columbia, Mo. where an autopsy will be performed. He said the official results of the examination won't be known for “several days.”

An initial report said that Head and Bacon had an ongoing dispute over whether a county road was opened or closed.

Head's Facebook page lists him as a Knox High School graduate. It also says that he graduated from Truman State University in 1976.

It also says that he is a retired police officer with the St. Louis Police Department. He was employed with the department from September 1977 through October 1988, according to David Marzullo, spokesman for the department. Head received an accidental disability retirement.

Knox County Sheriff Mike Kite forwarded all questions about the incident to the Missouri Highway Patrol. Officials at the Adair County Jail confirmed that Head is being held there pending formal charges and said that he was brought there by the Missouri Highway Patrol Tuesday evening.

The Highway Patrol is expected to release additional information.
