The man charged in a recent Quincy murder will have a mental health examination by order of the county.

Vincent Carter appeared before an Adams County circuit judge Wednesday.

His attorney, Chief Public Defender Holly Henze, filed a request to have him examined by a psychologist to see if he's mentally fit to stand trail.

The court appointed psychologist Frank Froman to conduct the examination. The report is due back to the court Feb. 13 when Judge Scott Walden will make a determination as to whether he is fit to stand trial.

Carter, 44, is charged in the Jan. 3 shooting death of 53-year-old Terry Williams.

The shooting took place shortly after 3 p.m. at 219 S. 11th St. Carter is accused of shooting Williams with a semi-automatic pistol. Williams was pronounced dead at Blessing Hospital a short time later.

Carter faces between 45 and 85 years in state prison if convicted. That sentence includes a 25-year enhancement because a firearm was used in the shooting.

Carter remains in the Adams County Jail.
