QUINCY, ILL. -- The Quincy Public School District on Thursday named its third interim superintendent.

Business Manager Joel Murphy will take over for current temporary district administrator Cal Lee starting Monday, pending his approval by the school board.

The board has meetings scheduled for Friday and Saturday to make the formal vote.

Prior to coming to Quincy, Murphy spent 20 years in central office administration at school districts in St. Charles, Yorkville, Oswego, Crystal Lake and Plainfield.

Murphy will keep his oversight responsibilities for the business office. The district will hire an interim business manager since there is too much work for one person to do both jobs, school board president Bill Daniels said.

Murphy's business manager salary is $125,000, or approximately $481 per day. He'll receive $665 per day during the time he serves as interim superintendent.

The district continues its search for a full-time administrator in the wake of last summer's departure of Lonny Lemon. The school board was forced to restart its search after it couldn't come to terms with a previous finalist.
