MCDONOUGH COUNTY, ILL. -- A Macomb man was hospitalized Sunday morning after police say he fell asleep behind the wheel.

The McDonough County Sheriff's Department says David Warner, 29, was traveling southbound on US 67 at 2000 North, when he fell asleep and ran off the road, just before 7 a.m. Sunday. Warner's vehicle struck a field entrance culvert and overturned, coming to rest on its roof in the ditch bottom.

Warner was restrained by a seatbelt. He was transported by ambulance to McDonough District Hospital in Macomb and then flown to OSF St. Francis in Peoria, Ill.

Officers cited Warner for operating an uninsured vehicle. They say alcohol was not involved.
