OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Two sites in the Oklahoma City area will receive a special designation from the U.S. Olympic Committee.
The USOC's acting CEO, Stephanie Streeter, will visit the Chesapeake Boathouse on Tuesday morning to announce that the Oklahoma River has been named a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site for rowing, canoeing and kayaking. The prime rowing spot was created after dams were installed to transform what had been a dry ditch into a waterway.
Streeter will also announce that the University of Central Oklahoma has received a similar designation for archery, volleyball and Paralympic sports.
The Edmond university is already a U.S. Paralympic training site.
