ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The WTA Tour has promoted David Shoemaker to president.

He succeeds new tour CEO Stacey Allaster. Shoemaker previously served as the tour's chief operating officer, general counsel and head of the Asia-Pacific region.

Shoemaker's new job puts him in charge of the tour's overall day-to-day operations and business affairs, tournament and player relations, and international TV and digital media rights.

He helped negotiate the tour's six-year, $88 million sponsorship agreement with Sony Ericsson and the $84 million in agreements that put the season-ending championships in Qatar from 2008-10 and Turkey from 2011-13.
