KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl has dismissed Tyler Smith from the team following the arrest of Smith and three other players a week ago.

Smith, a senior guard/forward, and the others face misdemeanor drug, gun and alcohol charges.

Pearl announced his decision to dismiss Smith on Friday and said Melvin Goins, Cameron Tatum and Brian Williams remain on indefinite suspension.

A news release from the university quoted Pearl saying that playing basketball at Tennessee is a "privilege" and the discipline was required.

A Knoxville police report said the players were in a rental car that was stopped Jan. 1 and officers found marijuana, an open container of alcohol and a handgun with an altered serial number.
