Quincy University adds three forwards and a pivot to open the NLI Signing Period
QU BOLSTERS FRONT LINE WITH FOUR BASKETBALL SIGNINGS ON THURSDAY
(Quincy, Ill.) The Quincy University men's basketball team has announced the signing of three prep standouts for the 2010-11 signing period. Joining Quincy next year will be Ricardo Carbajal, Jens Kennedy and Matt Roling. Marty Bell is expected to receive paperwork later today from Beardstown 6'8" forward Drake Vermillion as well.
"We are very excited to welcome three new Hawks to the QU basketball family. Our coaching staff did an outstanding job with the recruiting process and our players truly understand the importance of bringing good people to our program. Ricky, Jens and Matt are quality student-athletes that will be a great fit for our University and community," said Quincy head coach Marty Bell.
Carbajal, from Munster, Indiana, is a 6-7 senior forward at Munster High School where he is coached by Mike Hackett. As a junior last season Carbajal averaged 10 points and six rebounds per game. He is also a member of the Caps All-Star AAU team.
"Ricky is a tireless worker that plays with a great deal of energy and passion. He has great hands and can truly score in a variety of ways. He is strong and aggressive and should have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on our team," said Bell. "We learned about Ricky through his AAU coach Nate Ritchie who I coached at Drake University."
Kennedy, from Dwight, Illinois, is a 6-8 forward at Dwight High School where he is coached by Chris Gibson. Kennedy averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior last season, earning Second Team All-State honors at both the A and AA levels. Kennedy is also a member of the Peoria Irish AAU team that is coached by Gavin Sullivan. Jens father, Don, was a former local player at Culver-Stockton College.
"Jens is a very physical player that is fundamentally sound. He has the ability to score on the block and also step away from the basket to face up and score," said Bell. "He is a workhorse on the boards and possesses a toughness that will allow him to make a seamless transition from high school to college."
Matt Roling, from Waukee, Iowa, is a 6-7 forward at Waukee High School where he is coached by Matt Woodley. Woodley is also a former player at Drake under Bell's tenure there and was on the Middle Tennessee State coaching staff when current Quincy assistant coach Kevin Kanaskie was a member of the team. Roling averaged six points and two rebounds per game as a junior last season.
"Matt is a player that has really come on in the past year. He plays for Coach Matt Woodley who I had the privilege to coach at Drake University," said Bell. "Matt is a versatile athlete that can play inside or on the perimeter. He will most likely redshirt for us so that we can help him reach his full potential as a player."
