KHQA FIRST REPORT: LONERGAN PLEDGES QUINCY UNIVERSITY
His football program may not have won a game this past fall, but that hasn't stopped Quincy University Coach Bill Terlisner from landing easily the highest profile local recruit of his tenure.
KHQA Sports has learned that Jacksonville All State Quarterback Nick Lonergan, the second most prolific passer in Central State Eight history, has pledged the Hawks and will sign with QU on Wednesday Afternoon.
The Jacksonville Journal Courier Player of the Year and a first team All State honoree by the Illinois Football Coaches Association, Longergan lands at QU after receiving overatures to walk-on at Western Illinois and Ilinois State. He was also wooed by the likes of Butler, Northwest Missouri State, Eastern Kentucky, Indy, McKendree, Monmouth among others.
For his career, Nick Lonergan attempted just over 600 passes and completed a staggering 68% of them. Over the course of that tenure, he netted 53 passing touchdowns and tossed just 19 interceptions. Longeran also rushed for just over 11 hundred career yards and another 24 touchdowns, even though he was hindered in the mobility department for much of his senior season by an ankle injury. It certainly didn't seem to effect the kid's ability to dissect a defense. A first team All State Selection by both the Illinois Coaches Association and the Champaign News Gazette, Lonergan shredded secondaries to the tune of 3200 yards and 33 touchdowns this fall, again on 68% accuracy with just 9 giveaways in marshalling the Crimsons to a postseason berth and a staggering first round upset of top seeded Sacred Heart Griffin.
