ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina agrees to a four-year contract extension.
General manager John Mozeliak announced the deal Monday. It includes a club option for a fifth season, on the final day of the team's three-day Winter Warmup. Molina had been eligible for arbitration.
Molina is one of the top defensive players at his position in the majors.
Molina hit .275 with six home runs and 40 RBIs in 111 games last season, missing significant time with a fractured left wrist. He's the younger brother of two other major league catchers, Bengie Molina of the Giants and Jose Molina of the Yankees.
St. Louis has one player still seeking arbitration, right-hander Todd Wellemeyer.
