In Bob Nielson's tenure as head coach of the Division II Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, he posted 100 wins over 10 seasons along with 2 national championships. On Wednesday, he discussed his plan of how to bring that standard of success to Western Illinois University. Nielson was introduced as the 27th head coach in the history of Leatherneck football, and takes over a team that posted only 5 combined wins over the past two seasons. In order to lift the program from its recent skid, Nielson plans to use an approach based on consistency. Its what worked in the Division II ranks, and its what he and the WIU Athletic Department hope will work in the Missouri Valley Conference and FCS. Nielson enters during a time of strength for all Leatherneck sports, meaning his contributions to the football program will only help boost Western Illinois further into the spotlight of success.
