NORMAL, ILL. -- The Quincy Notre Dame Lady Raiders wait for a state championship just got longer.
Chicago Marshall (25-7) came back from a 4th quarter deficit to send the Class 3A semifinal game into overtime, where clutch free throw shooting got the Commandos to the state championship game, 76-73.
Sophomore Karlee Gengenbacher led the Lady Raiders (32-1) in scoring with 25 points, but missed two free throws with seconds left in regulation to seal a trip to the state title game.
Turnovers plagued QND, which held the lead for most of the game. Marshall would capitalize on those mistakes to the tune of 30 points.
The Lady Raiders now await the loser of the Freeport/Lombard Montini game in the Class 3A Third Place game.
The last QND girls basketball state championship was in 1984.
