COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — Scott Strange of Australia and Chris Wood of England shared the lead at 9 under after the second day of the Mercedes-Benz Championship Friday.
Soren Hansen of Denmark held a one-shot lead until the final 18th hole but had a double bogey to finish the day with a 1-under 71 and fall one shot behind the leaders. He was six shots over his first round Thursday.
Ross Fisher of England and James Kingston of South Africa were also at 8 under at the end of the day.
Wood missed a birdie putt at the final hole that would have left him in sole possession of the lead. He had a round of 69, while Strange carded 68.
Hansen led by three when Fisher bogeyed the 10th, but the Dane then had bogeys on the 12th and 14th and hit the rough on the final hole.
Wood stayed in the chase when he holed the 14th from a bunker.
Strange had six birdies and two bogeys, while Wood had three birdies.
At two shots off the lead were David Drysdale of Scotland, Niclas Fasth of Sweden and Graeme Storm of England.
The highest-ranked golfer in the field of 78, No. 6 Henrik Stenson of Sweden, was three shots off the lead and No. 10 Lee Westwood of England was another shot back.
Europe's Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie of Scotland, who is without a top-10 finish since June last year, had a round of 69 to finish the day six shots behind the leaders.
Bernhard Langer of Germany, seeking to become the oldest winner on the European tour at age 52, saw his hopes vanish with a 3-over round of 75.
