If you thought the month of December felt warmer than many in your memory, you are right.

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has pulled together the history of December temperatures for Burlington, Iowa and have ranked December 2011 as one of the warmest on record.

The National Weather Service has recorded weather data dating back to 1872 and in comparison, 2011 was indeed a warm year for the month of December (and the month is not even over yet.)  

The average daily temperature for Burlington in the month of December was 33.1 degrees, which lands at the 14th warmest in that recorded history. Remember we still have a few days to go, with well above average temperatures in the forecast, so Burlington could find it self in the top ten category by weeks end.

In case you are wondering, yes even Christmas Day 2011 made the record books shed some pounds in Burlington at 35.5 degrees, December 25, 2011 ranks as the 13th warmest Christmas Day in Burlington's recorded history.
