LOUISIANA, MO. -- The Missouri Department of Transportation wants to know if you'd keep or ditch the name of the Champ Clark Bridge.

The state is in the early stages of assessing whether to replace the 85-year-old bridge along U.S. 54 that spans the Mississippi River near Louisiana, Mo.

The bridge is one of the oldest along the river.

MoDOT recently opened a poll on the Champ Clark website asking motorists and residents whether they would name the new bridge after the former U.S. Congressman and Louisiana native.

The project is currently in the environmental assessment phase which could take up to two years. During the course of the environmental assessment, MoDOT will hold multiple public meetings which it expects will create a citizen's advocacy group.

Replacing the bridge could cost up to $100 million, which would likely be covered by a combination of federal and state funds. Costs will shared between MoDOT and IDOT, with MoDOT managing the project.
