The Weather Service says it confirmed a tornado with winds of 90 mph touched down
DUNDEE (AP) -- The National Weather Service says it has confirmed that a total of eight tornadoes hit Michigan over the weekend.
The Weather Service says it confirmed a tornado with winds of 90 mph touched down early Sunday near the Fermi 2 nuclear plant in southeastern Michigan's Monroe County. Winds ripped siding off a building at the plant, causing it to shut down automatically.
The tornado was in addition to one with winds of about 130 mph that touched down in Dundee in Monroe County and a smaller tornado near Rome Center, 27 miles west of Dundee.
The Weather Service says its storm survey crews found four tornadoes hit in southwestern Michigan. And a tornado hit two miles south of Battle Creek, uprooting trees, damaging homes and blowing the roof off a church.
