Knocked down trees and power lines all over town

BARRY, ILL. -- "It was ugly. It was raining sideways and the wind was pretty rapid."

That's what Barry Fire Chief Chris Little had to say about the storm that ripped through the Tri-States Tuesday afternoon (7/12).

Little says that the heavy winds that came through around 5:00PM Tuesday evening ripped off most of the roof on the Library/Museum.

Crews we're trying to get the hole covered as soon as possible to avoid any further damage to the inside of the building.

"Lot of water damage. There's a lot of old stuff up there so we're trying to cover it up and protect it. Down in the library got some water damage too so we're stacking books and trying to get things aired out and protected. Tarping it, trying to get it covered as best we can. There's another chance tomorrow for some more of this weather, so try and get it covered up and protected as best we can," said Little.

Chief Chris Little told KHQA there was also trees and power lines down around town.
