MONROE CITY, MO. -- Some Monroe City hog farmers lost more than a hundred sows and baby pigs in a fire that happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Monroe City Fire Chief Gary MacElroy says firefighters responded to a call of a fuse box on fire.

By the time they arrived, the building was fully engulfed.

The hog farm, located just south of Monroe City, was owned by Maher Brothers, Incorporated.

MacElroy thinks the fire was electrical in nature.
