KEOKUK, IOWA -- Part of the Grand Avenue reconstruction project in Keokuk has a chance to come to fruition.
The city has to have the storm and sanitary sewer separation project complete in less than 20 years.
The storm water can dump into the river, but the sewer has to be treated at the sanitary plant.
The standoff with the BNSF Railroad concerning a structure to carry excess storm water into the Mississippi River will soon be settled. Some contractors are working with BNSF Railroad to build a structure that could go through the railway.
Three 36-inch, 50-foot-long pipes would carry water into the river.
Sixteen people met at the site of the proposed structure last week ... a few of them contractors.
Mayor Tom Marion hopes to get this started soon.
The city hasn't seen any bids yet.
