An armed Louisiana, Missouri man whom authorities described as emotionally disturbed surrendered without a shot being fired Wednesday evening.

Louisiana police got a call shortly after 5 p.m. of a man with a gun on Martella Drive.

The quiet residential neighborhood is just up the hill from Pike County Memorial Hospital on the west side of the city.

The man was home alone and asked to speak with Louisiana Police Chief Rich Hughes, who diffused the situation without injury to the suspect or officers.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol provided assistance at the scene.

The unidentified man has not been charged.

The suspect was taken to an unnamed hospital and placed on a 72-hour mental health hold, according to Hughes.

Once the hold period ends, authorities will then decide how to proceed.
