LOUISIANA, MO. -- It was just a few weeks ago that the Kroger Grocery store chain announced they would be closing their store in Louisiana Missouri at the end of October.
Once that store closes, it will force residents in Louisiana to drive to a grocery store out of town if they need to stock their food pantry at home.
The closest grocery store is in Bowling Green and that is 11 miles from Louisiana. Or some people drive to Pittsfield that is 19 miles away and visit a grocery store there.
But now the store director of the County Market store in Pittsfield said they're going to offer free door-to-door delivery service to people who place phone orders with them on Mondays.
"Those folks are our neighbors basically and we thought you know we like to take care of our friends and family and this is a good way for us to reach out to the folks in Louisiana in a way that they need right now," Jim Brown said.
Once people place the order over the phone, the delivery truck will head to Louisiana on Tuesday. Customers who order can pay with either cash, check, credit card or even Missouri Food Stamps.

For Rita Reeves, who is a resident of Louisiana, she likes the idea of having this delivery service, "That's a fantastic idea. There's no place else here. You know, if they would deliver groceries here in town I mean we can't pass up on it, it's too good of a deal for County Market to come in here and give us our groceries," Reeves said.
The order will be totaled up by the staff at the County Market store and customers will know how much they owe when they make the call each Monday. If there are items that need to be refrigerated, special delivery arrangements will be made when the order is placed and Brown said he wants to continue to make sure his store provides a needed service for as long as the residents of Louisiana need.
