QUINCY, ILL. -- About a dozen off duty firefighters came to the rescue of about 30 kids this morning at the Quincy Walmart.
Members of the Firefighter's Union Local 63 make it an annual tradition to help buy toys for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.
Some of the firefighters even make it a family affair and bring their families to help shop.
The money raised by the union comes from the spring country music concert, and the gun raffle the union members host.
"This program ends tomorrow. A lot of years we can come in and try to finish all those up. Some years they barely saved any tags for us. This year it looks like there's still a great need out there. We'll do what we can. We'll probably pick up 25 to 30 of the tags," Captain Mark Bigelow with the Firefighters Union Local 63 said.
Which means there are more tags available this year.
Friday night, the union is hosting an open house at Central Fire Station.
Every child who comes by gets a toy, and Santa Claus is scheduled to be there, too.
