PIKE COUNTY, ILL. -- A pedestrian was struck and killed Saturday morning near Pittsfield, Ill.

The Illinois State Police says 32-year-old Rickie L. Swarringim, of Jerseyville, was walking along County Highway 11, just south of 225th Ave. when a Pleasant Hill man driving northbound in a Ford truck struck him.

The accident occurred at 5:28 a.m. Saturday.

An investigation into the incident by the Pike County Sheriff's Department found that Swarringim had visited friends in Nebo, Ill. late Friday night. Deputies believe Swarringim later left in a white Buick car and then wrecked the car on County Highway 11 sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. The Sheriff's Department says Swarringim then began to walk to Pittsfield from the accident site, about seven miles before he was struck by a car.

Swarringim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner. An autopsy is scheduled in Wood River, Ill.

No arrests were made.

The incident remains under investigation by the Pike County Coroner's Office and the Illinois State Police.
